Peter Michael Hamel

*1947

Performance duration: 8–10 minutes

The score for organ and percussion, dedicated to the memory of Bertold Hummel, is an ‘extract’ from my church music theatre piece De Visione Dei, based on texts by Cusanus, for Brixen Cathedral. The Conclusion of my Litany of the Names of God for the Würzburg Cathedral School is also included in the silence of contemplation.

Since I was 12 years old, Bertold Hummel has shaped my compositional (and Catholic) identity. As a pupil at the archbishop’s seminary in Rastatt, I was the soloist on an LP production by Christophorus Verlag, which he directed artistically. Right up until our final meetings in Hamburg and Munich, I felt supported by his caring kindness, his artistic vision and his open and tolerant humanity.
