As a composer, I feel a sense of duty towards the community in which I live. My aim is to make a modest contribution to the endeavour of making the world a more humane and liveable place. The ‘triangle’ of composer – performer – listener is, for me, a constant challenge that must be met in a variety of ways, ranging from the demanding standards of a virtuoso orchestral or chamber music score to the very serious task of composing for amateur musicians and for children.
— Bertold Hummel
