Biography
Born on 23 May 1928 in Bamberg
1948–1952 Studied at the Freiburg University of Music: flute (Gustav Scheck); conducting (Karl Ueter, Konrad Lechner)
1952: Awarded a diploma at the 7th International Competition in Geneva for outstanding achievements as a flautist
1959–1961 Head of Opera in Graz
1961–1965: General Music Director in Hanover 1965–1981: General Music Director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf/Duisburg)
1969–1973 Professor of Conducting at the Folkwang School in Essen
1981–1993 Professor of Conducting and Orchestral Conducting at the Würzburg University of Music
Recordings and radio productions as a conductor, including at the Edinburgh Festival, Warsaw Autumn and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; concerts with, amongst others, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, Capella Coloniensis; guest conducting engagements at, amongst others, the Vienna State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Covent Garden, London.
