Roland Weber performed the world premiere of Bertold Hummel’s *Improvisation for Piano Trio*, Op. 9, No. 2

Biography
Roland Weber, born in Freiburg in 1925, studied with Julius Weismann and, from 1946, at the University of Music with Harald Genzmer and Konrad Lechner. After a brief stint in theatre, he became a theory teacher at the Municipal Academy of Music in Darmstadt in 1954 and moved to the Karlsruhe University of Music in 1966, where he taught theory and composition. Weber’s works include instrumental concertos with orchestra (for cello, 1962; for violin, 1969; for piano, 1972; for violin and cello, 1983), a string quartet (1982) and numerous songs and chamber music works: two piano trios (1964 and 1976), sonatas for flute (1974), for cello (1979) and for violin (1977), each with piano accompaniment; six Hölderlin songs (1966); eight Morgenstern songs (1983); “Urworte Orphisch” after Goethe for baritone and twelve instruments (1978), and five mixed choral works (1965). An opera, “Der letzte König von Orplid” (The Last King of Orplid), based on Mörike, remained unfinished. He wrote his final work, “An die Musik” (To Music) for string orchestra, based on the poem of the same name by Rainer Maria Rilke, in 2002.
