The German Proper for Easter Sunday appeared in 1965 in a series of "German Mass Propers", which were published by the local Echter publishing house on behalf of the Episcopal Ordinariate of Würzburg by Canon Dr Richard Schömig, Professor Bertold Hummel and Cathedral Chapel Master Franz Fleckenstein.
Immediately after the introduction of the new order of mass after the Second Vatican Council, which permitted the use of the vernacular and vernacular languages in the church, they wanted to offer church musicians, choirs and cantors musical materials with which they could fulfil these new requirements in a dignified manner. The texts were taken from the new Altar Missal and the Beuron Psalm Book with the approval of the Archabbey of Beuron and the publisher Herder. However, with the publication of the new lectionaries at the beginning of the 1970s and the standardised translation of the Holy Scriptures in 1979, these were outdated. The introduction of the revised standardised translation into the liturgy in 2016 provided an opportunity to bring back the valuable music and carefully adapt it to the new text versions, taking into account the recitation models and the original declamation.
