After the great physical and mental effort involved in the composition and successful premiere of his one-hour anti-war ballet "The Last Flower" (after James Thurber), Bertold Hummel withdrew to his friend Peter Jona Korn 's holiday home in Dorfgastein in August 1975 and composed a whole series of smaller compositions in a cheerfully relaxed mood: 10 piano pieces for children, a piano sonatina, songs based on poems by Theodor Storm and the Romance for flute and piano, which in its rapturous tone perhaps tells of the starry nights of the Austrian mountain landscape.
