A Family: Three composers from one family meet at the turn of the 20th to the 21st century. This CD presentation focuses on works by Bertold Hummel (1925–2002). The compositions by the senior composer’s two sons, Cornelius Hummel (1957) and Stefan David Hummel (1968), provide a counterpoint with direct and indirect references, respectively, to Bertold Hummel’s musical language. The concept behind the compilation of these compositions focuses almost exclusively on music for string instruments. Two exceptions fall outside this conceptual framework: Bertold Hummel’s ‘Concertino for Bassoon and Strings’, Op. 27b, and Stefan David Hummel’s composition ‘Behind the Quietness’, in which a flute and clarinet are added to a string quartet.
