This music is exactly what the title promises. It is simple music, everything can be played in the 1st position, except for the ad libitum E in the cello part. There are 5 movements which pose different challenges to the players. There is the Elegy in 6/8 time with some syncopation, followed by the Tango, the rhythm of which is always performed by two voices. The Sarabande has an abundance of accidentals to keep the players' concentration and gives them the opportunity to practise different bow strokes. In the finale there are some good bowings in the 2nd violins. The music can be played by a string quartet as well as a string orchestra. I look forward to trying out the music.
