In 1990, the renowned dulcimer player, researcher and teacher Karl-Heinz Schickhaus (1938-2007) asked Bertold Hummel to compose a piece for a collection of etudes he was publishing. The resulting etude Im Tempo eines Ländlers was primarily intended for practising whole-tone scales.
Bertold Hummel's work is a genuine concert étude, based on the mother earth of the sedate Ländler with a mischievous allusion to Johann Strauss, modern with whole-tone scale sections suitable for the dulcimer and heavy - what more could a dulcimer player's heart want?
