Chant II
Grace has been poured out on your lips,
therefore God has blessed you forever.
You are just, gentle and faithful:
Wonderfully the hand of the Lord leads you.
Chant I
Alleluia.
Your lamp does not go out at night,
for the Lord is her light
and in her last days she will rejoice,
for the Lord is her light, her holy light.
Alleluia.
St Anne
Movement I. / II./ III.
St Anne, mother great,
what your holy womb bears
for precious gems.
By God thou art chosen
that you bore the treasure of the world
the virgin pure.
Thou hast brought forth
in whom God willed to show his power
and wonders:
a virgin not alone,
she shall also be a mother,
to whom the angels bow.
Your child Mary is
the mother of Jesus Christ,
the Saviour of this earth,
whom through your prayer
have implored in time of need.
O help us to be saved.
To you be praise, honour and thanksgiving
All our lives long,
that you have given birth to us
such a pearl and crown,
Who through the dear Son
Brought back what was lost.

Composition commissioned by the SWF church radio station
On 28 February 1959, Karl Becker wrote to Hummel: "The Catholic church choir in Haigerloch is always very interested in Anna songs. There is always a big pilgrimage to St Anne's Church in the summer. Question: Under what conditions would you give the church choir there permission to perform the commissions we have asked you for?
On 25 May 1959, Karl Becker writes to Hummel: "I see from Mr Smits' invoice that the commission for the St. Anna Festival is ready and that the sheet music is available.
On 13 March 1959, Karl Becker writes to Hummel and asks for parts for soprano, alto, tenor and bass as well as the score of the Annalieder. Mr Hummel asks for a report to GEMA's church music rating office on 9 March 1959 (GEMA: ISWC: T-800.764.052-1) A miserable radio recording exists. Here the parts are performed as follows:
