Franz Fehrenbach studied with Bertold Hummel at the Freiburg University of Music and gave the world premiere of his Sonatina for Trumpet and Piano, Op. 1a, on 19 July 1951.

Biography
from 1935: began taking trumpet lessons at the age of 12 at the Waldkirch/Breisgau Music School on his own initiative
From 1941: military service
1943–46: Held as a prisoner of war by the Americans
1946–48: Held as a prisoner of war by the French
During his time in captivity from 1943 to 1948, he was the musical director of a men’s choir and various light music bands.
1949–51: Trumpeter in a small light music orchestra in Freiburg/Breisgau
1952–66: Trumpeter in the Baden-Baden Spa Orchestra, now the Baden-Baden Philharmonic
1966–84: Trumpeter with the SWF Symphony Orchestra in Baden-Baden
1961–1992: Various conducting roles with a men’s choir and several wind orchestras in the Upper Rhine region
