The title Fluid Boundaries aptly characterises the works brought together on this recording by the Tyrolean Chamber Orchestra InnStrumenti: despite strong references to the cultural region of Tyrol, geographical and musical-stylistic boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred. The starting point is the memory of the renowned German composer Bertold Hummel (1925-2002), whose work Partita for chamber orchestra op. 79 is available for the first time on this CD in a co-production by Bayerischer Rundfunk - Studio Franken and the Studio für Neue Musik Würzburg. In addition, two new orchestral works are presented that make direct reference to Bertold Hummel: The colourful Concerto for Saxophone and Chamber Orchestra by Christoph Wünsch (*1955), which has already been successfully performed several times, was written in memory of the composer and is dedicated to saxophonist Lutz Koppetsch, who impressively realises the solo part in all its facets. Laurence Traiger (*1956) also includes memories of Hummel and establishes a meta-level connection between Germany and Tyrol in Fließende Grenzen - Fluid Boundaries.
A 24-page bilingual (German/English) booklet with further information on composers and compositions is included with the CD.
