Preface (RL 41060)
Introducing young musicians to chamber music is one of the most important tasks of a violin teacher and a music school. In particular, we lack good contemporary music with high musical standards that can be played by children at an early learning stage. I was very excited to see this volume, because it answers exactly this need.
In 20 small duets and tercets, Hummel playfully introduces a wide variety of musical terms, forms and ways of playing. Suggestions for small percussive accompaniments expand the sound of the pieces, which can be performed individually or in cycles - perhaps in combination with short poems and stories.
I might add that it is a great personal pleasure for me to get to know this work. As a young student in Würzburg, Bertold Hummel was always a role model for me in many encounters as a benevolent, enthusiastic educator, composer and humanist. I hope that this book will inspire children to enjoy good music on many music stands!
