Bertold Hummel dedicated his Andante religioso op.95e (published in 1994) to the Cellissimo Ensemble Frankfurt. It is an atonal work in which the motifs characterised by the intervals of fourths and fifths can be recognised as the musical core. A religious mood can be felt throughout the piece. The main motif of the introduction is reminiscent of a chorale (crotchet=84). The dialogues are dominated by dance motifs ("giocoso" crotchet=100). This is followed by parallel harmonised passages marked by the second (crotchet=112). These three elements alternate repeatedly throughout the work. A calm mood prevails in the final section, which concludes with a C major chord.
