Hummel's three-movement sonatina for flute and piano is a seamless continuation of its successful predecessors from the 70s and 80s. Here, too, there are striking themes, rhythms in irregular metre ("Zwiefacher"), elegiac cantilenas, virtuoso-sounding runs and a grotesque march theme that challenge young people and are fun to play.
