Emil Maas

13 January 1922 - 6 March 2005 Berlin

During their time studying together in Freiburg, Emil Maas (violin), Bertold Hummel (cello) and the composer Friedrich Zehm (piano) give chamber music concerts as the Maas Trio. On 3 May 1952, Emil Maas premiered Hummel's Sonata for Violin and Piano op. 6 on the occasion of the 2nd German Student Day at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. Emil Maas moved to the city in 1958 at the latest, where he was a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra until 1987. The two musicians remained friends for the rest of their lives.
