According to Plath
Theo Plath, born in 1994, received his first bassoon lessons at the age of 5, studying with Nikolaus Maler, principal bassoonist of the Rheinische Philharmonie State Orchestra, from 2001 to 2009. In 2000, he also began piano lessons, studying with Thomas Mombaur since 2006. Theo Plath actively participated in master classes with Prof. Dag Jensen, Prof. Sergio Azzolini and Prof. Klaus Thunemann. He has been a member of the German National Youth Orchestra since 2007. Theo Plath won third prize at the Schloss Waldthausen Music Prize. He is a national prize winner in both instruments in the "Jugend Musiziert" competition. This year, he won first prize and was awarded the "Hans Sikorski Memorial Prize" by the German Music Foundation. He was also awarded the special prize of the city of Erlangen at the "Weekend of Special Prizes" of the 2009 National Youth Music Competition.
He has been a scholarship holder of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation since 2009. In February 2010, he made his orchestral debut with the Bergische Symphoniker. Since October 2009, he has been a junior student with Prof. Dag Jensen at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover, and since the 2011/12 winter semester at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.

Tabea Brehm / David Spranger
Tabea Brehm, born on 5 March 1988 in Stuttgart. Piano lessons since 1995. Bassoon lessons from 2000 to 2007 with Dimitri Rudiakov at the Stuttgart Music School. Preparatory class at the Stuttgart Music School from 2003 to 2007. Studied at the University of Music Würzburg in the class of Prof. Albrecht Holder since the winter semester 2007/2008. Orchestral experience in the following orchestras, among others: Baden-Württemberg State Youth Orchestra, Interregional Youth Symphony Orchestra (IRO), Baden-Württemberg Youth Wind Orchestra, Würzburg University of Music Orchestra, Ludwigsburg Castle Festival Orchestra. Competitions: Several national prizes in the "Jugend musiziert" competition in the categories bassoon solo, duo: bassoon with piano and chamber music. Second prize in the competition of the Würzburg Music Academy in the category bassoon solo (2009). Master classes with Prof. Klaus Thunemann, Prof. Dag Jensen, Prof. Georg Klütsch and Prof. Kim Walker.
David Spranger, born in Dresden in 1988, began playing the violoncello at the age of 6 with Christina Meißner and later with Tim Stolzenburg. In 2001, he switched to the bassoon and received lessons from Manfred Beyer (Staatskapelle Weimar) at the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Weimar. From 2006, he was a junior student of Prof. Frank Forst (HfM Weimar). During his time at the music school, he played in the German National Youth Orchestra and was a multiple national prize winner at "Jugend musiziert". Active participation in masterclasses with Albrecht Holder, Klaus Thunemann, Frank Forst, Eckart Hübner, Georg Klütsch and Dag Jensen furthered his musical education. He has performed as a soloist with the Jena Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and the Weimar State Orchestra. Since the winter semester of 2008, he has been studying at the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar with Prof. Frank Forst and in November 2008 he received a scholarship from the Hans and Eugenia Jütting Foundation in Stendal. He has also been a scholarship holder of the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation since 2011 and won third prize at the 4th International Academic Oboe and Bassoon Competition in Lodz in 2011. Since September 2011, he has been studying abroad with Prof. David Tomas (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) in Barcelona, Spain. David Spranger is a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the Neues Kammerorchester Bamberg and plays chamber music primarily in the Trio Elan, with which he won the Emsbürener Musiktage prize in 2009.

Johannes Hofbauer / Siyi Zhang
Johannes Hofbauer was born on 10 July 1987 in Mattsee, Salzburg. At the age of six, he began his musical career at music school, learning the recorder, and two years later continued with the bassoon under Gerti Hollweger. In 2005, Johannes Hofbauer completed his training at Musikum with distinction. After a year of preparatory studies at the Mozarteum University with Yoshi Tominaga and simultaneous military service with the Salzburg Military Band, he has been studying concert performance with Prof. Richard Galler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna since October 2007. From October 2009 to September 2011, Johannes Hofbauer was an academician with the Munich Philharmonic, where he played solo bassoon for the first time in June 2010. In addition to numerous prizes in various competitions, he is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra and the Innviertler Symphony Orchestra (in each case as principal bassoonist). Johannes Hofbauer has also played as a substitute with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg (including principal bassoon) and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He has also gained chamber music experience with Günther Passin, Milan Turkovic, Matthias Schorn and David Seidel. Johannes Hofbauer has participated in masterclasses with Eberhard Marschall, Richard Galler, Frank Morelli, Ole-Kristian Dahl and David Seidel. For his outstanding musical achievements, Johannes Hofbauer was awarded the European Union's "Chairman's Award" during the EUYO's 2009 summer tour.
Siyi Zhang was born in Shanghaiin 1988. She studied at the Shanghai Music High School with Zhihong Song from 2000 to 2006 and completed a diploma course in bassoon at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre with Prof. Tobias Pelkner and Prof. Christian Kunert from 2006 to 2011. She is currently pursuing a master's degree with a major in bassoon.
