Sepp Wurster has been a close friend of Bertold Hummel since the early 1950s. In 1960, he became godfather to Hummel's third son Martin Tobias. Numerous works by the painter and graphic artist adorn the walls of Hummel's flats in Freiburg and Würzburg. In 1965, he designed the posters for the concert series 'Studio für Neue Musik in Würzburg'. He made his illustrations available to Zimmermannverlag Frankfurt for the posthumously published sheet music editions 'Fröhliche Weihnachtszeit zu zweit' and 'Tänze aus dem Schwarzwald'.

Biography

Josef (Sepp) Wurster (* 18.10.1919 in Freiburg in Breisgau), apprenticeship as a church painter, 1958-1959 studied at the Academy of Art in Munich under Prof. Oberberger, then trained as a church painter at the Graphische Fachschule in Innsbruck, 1947-1948 further training in drawing and watercolour painting and studied lettering, 1949 studied portrait and nude drawing under Rudolf Dischinger in Freiburg, 1950 studied at the then Academy of Art in Freiburg under Prof. Adolf Strübe. 1952-1960 in-house graphic artist at the Amerika-Haus in Freiburg, 1960-1962 artistic director of Atelier Maurice Herzog, Lausanne-Pforzheim, 1962-1966 artistic director of Atelier Eilebrecht, Baden-Baden. Since 1967 Sepp Wurster has worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and book illustrator.
